DC2RVA Spotlight – Pete Burrus

March 1, 2016

If you see an old Land Rover with the hood up, you might see Pete Burrus under it. In his free time he likes tinkering under the hood of antique cars, but the majority of the time Pete is focused on putting his vast rail experience to work at DRPT. As the new chief of rail transportation, Pete is responsible for the strategic management, development, and execution of all DRPT freight and passenger rail transportation initiatives.

While Pete is new to DRPT, he is hardly new to the rail arena with more than 25 years in the industry. He is a Richmond native who returns to his hometown after working for CSX Transportation for over two decades. During his tenure at CSX, Pete held a number of senior management positions, serving most recently as assistant vice president, network operations locomotive management where he lead a team that focused on safety, service, and productivity improvements. His prior positions within the company included general manager for the Nashville Division, general manager for the Chicago Division, superintendent of operations for the Florence Division, and general manager of network operations.

Pete is especially looking forward to working on the DC2RVA project because of its importance in connecting communities and providing the critical link to the larger high speed rail network. He understands the challenges ahead and wants to demonstrate to a large and diverse number of stakeholders the benefits of investing in capacity improvements.
